Get Free Custom Domains (Webflow, Wix, Squarespace)

In this post we will cover how to get free custom domains on website builders that usually charge for this functionality. This post will run through how to get a free webflow custom domain specifically, but can be applied to any website.

To get started, if you haven't already, head over to https://webflow.com/ and create your first website. We decided to create a business site using the "Business Starter" template.

Once you're done customizing your domain, you will be ready to publish.

Webflow will let you publish to a webflow.io subdomain for free, but if you want to publish to your own custom domain, you will have to pay. Fortunately, Renderproxy lets you get around this easily.

The next step is to get a Renderproxy account if you do not have one already. Once logged in, you can add a proxy entry for your site. In our case, we own the domain renderproxy.com.

Insert the webflow domain that webflow assigned to you in the "Origin URL" field of your proxy settings and press "Save". In our case, that URL was https://francescos-business-starter-c42391.webflow.io/.

The top of the Renderproxy page will have instructions on how to set up your own custom domain with Renderproxy. We happen to be using Google Domains, and the entry in our DNS settings for renderproxy.com is as below.

Now we can finally visit our custom domain (in our case renderproxy.com) and see content from the webflow site we created earlier!

You'll notice that Renderproxy automatically handled HTTPS for your domain. Remember, this same process will work for any website!
